14th November, 2011.
Dear Parents,
After the excitement of Hector's visit and our midterm break we have settled back into our school routine. We have a lot of exciting activities happening this half term.
Welcome to our New Staff
A very warm welcome to our new staff Ms Michelle Kirk ( 4th Class), Mr Jonathon Lyons (3rd Class) and Ms Sheila Mc Keown ( Learning Support).
Two of our appointments were made based on enrolment numbers and the third was to fill the vacancy which occurred when Mr Mc Carthy took up his new appointment as Principal of Gurraneasaig N.S. in his native Cork. We wish Mr Mc Carthy every happiness in his new role. He will be missed here at Muire na nGael, both for his work in the classroom and for his contribution towards the sporting life of Muire na nGael. Mr Mc Carthy was a keen hurler and spent many hours coaching our pupils over the past five years.
Anti- Bullying Week
This week is Anti-Bullying week in our school. All classes will participate in discussions and activities to make all our pupils more aware of the effects of bullying.
We will have an Information Night for Parents on "Bullying" with a particular focus on cyber bullying on Monday 21st November at 7.30pm in the school hall. The programme will be delivered by Peer Youth Education facilitators Samantha Teather and Lee O'Neill. It will be a very informative evening and I do hope as many parents as possible will make an effort to attend.
Parent Teacher Meetings
Parents will have the opportunity to meet their child's class teacher this week. Time slots will issue from individual teachers. Please advise the teacher if you have changed address or phone numbers. We note from our text a parent system that some phone numbers we have been given are inaccessible.
The school will close at 2.15pm on Thursday 17th November to allow teachers prepare for the parent teacher meeting that evening.
Wet Days
I encourage all parents to ensure their child wears a coat to school each day. The weather will be getting colder and unpredictable and children should wear a coat to the playground daily.
Hallow'Een Play
Well done to Mrs Brennan and her 5th class who put on a fantastic production of "Frankie and Me" before the midterm break. All classes in the school enjoyed the production as did the children's families who came to see the show on Friday evening 28th October.
Touring Pantomime
The West Midlands Touring Group is visiting our school today Monday 14Th November and again on Monday 21st November with their professional show Aladdin in Pantomime. There is a nominal cost of €1 per pupil. We have had this group visit our school over the past few years and the shows were thoroughly enjoyed by the pupils.
Hector's Visit
Well done to all our artists who participated in the 2FM/Barnardos Art Competition, winning a very special visit by Hector and the 2FM Breakfast Crew to our school. A special thank you to our 5th Class pupils, Lara Luchessi, Nicole Duffy, Emily Leech, Laura Flood, Maeve Reilly, Holly Lambe Sally and to Anita Luchessi ( parent) who worked over a weekend to prepare their life size Hector for their entry. Having the Breakfast Show broadcast live from our school was a great occasion and it was wonderful to see so many parents, grandparents, past pupils and neighbours of the school joining in the fun on the morning. A video of the event can be accessed from the school website www.bayestatens.ie. We will upload photos of the event to our website soon.
We would also like to acknowledge the support and treats provided for Hector and for our pupils, by Spar Bay Estate, Total Produce, Keelan's Home Bakery, The Bargain House, Mc Closkey's Bakery, Vine House Catering, Cooley Distillery, Paul & Liz Mc Court and Champion Milk.
Thank you to the Parents & Friends Committee for all their hard work preparing the school for the event.
Christmas Fair
Our Parents & Friends Committee is busy preparing for the Christmas Fair on Friday 2nd December (7pm - 9pm). This will be a great opportunity to get your Christmas gifts. To date there are over 25 stall holders participating and there will be lots of additional side shows for the children. Further details will be sent out by the Parents & Friends Committee.
Book Fair
Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will take place December 5th - 7th. All funds raised from the book fair will go towards the purchase of library books for our new school library which will hopefully open next March.
