Dear Parents,
Our first term is almost over and we are all looking forward to our Christmas holidays. It has been an action packed term and we all have different memories - the arrival of Hector & the 2FM Breakfast Crew, our class concerts/shows, participation in sporting events and various competitions etc. Whatever your highlight we appreciate that all the events of the past term were thanks to great teamwork by a lot of people.
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS: Our school will close for the Christmas holidays on Thursday 22nd December at 12 noon and will reopen on Monday 9th January 2012. Enjoy the holidays.
THANK YOU
A very special thank you to all who have helped over the past year to make our school the wonderful place it is - our fantastic pupils who have worked so hard and represented our school so well on so many occasions, our great staff who are so dedicated and committed, our parent body who have supported all our endeavours here at Muire na nGael, our school chaplain Fr Jim for his work with all classes, but particularly with our First Holy Communion and Confirmation classes, our Parents & Friends Committee who work tirelessly to fundraise for our school and to our Board of Management who oversee the work of the school. I wish each and every one of you a very Happy Christmas and every good wish for 2012.
THOMAS (BUNNY) MAGEE R.I. P.
Our school community was shocked to hear of the sudden passing of "Bunny" Magee, our school lollipop man. Pupils from our school formed a guard of honour at the funeral. We extend our sincere sympathies to Bunny's family and assure them of our prayers at this time.
CHRISTMAS SHOWS
What talent we have in our school!! Our three junior infant classes took to the stage on Monday evening to perform their Nativity Shows for their families. It was a real treat to see our junior infants who are only here with us for the past four months, perform with such confidence. On Tuesday evening we were entertained by Ms Mc Donnell's senior infants and Ms Mc Donnell's 2nd class who once again treated one and all to a great evening's entertainment. Our final performance will take place today with Mrs Ui Ghallachoir's class also proving to us that Muire na nGael has lots of talent with their very lively performance. Thank you to the class teachers involved for all their hard work.
CAROL -SINGING
Our school was invited to send a group of carol-singers to Dundalk Stadium to add some Christmas cheer to their party nights. Our 5th & 6th classes performed over 2 weekends in the freezing cold. They were a credit to our school and to their families and were determined to brave the elements to raise as much money as possible for the elderly in St Oliver's Hospital. In total they raised a whopping €1591. Thank you to the parents and staff who also came out to accompany the children.
INTER-GENERATIONAL PROJECT
Mr Ford's class visited St Oliver's Hospital on Monday for our annual Christmas party with the elderly residents and day care visitors. Santa joined us and we distributed over 70 presents on the day. Ms Kirk's class entertained the elderly with a beautiful carol service which was much appreciated by the staff and patients in St Olivers. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who accompanied Mr Ford's class on their visits over the past term.
ART PRIZE WINNERS
We had great success in art competitions recently.
Congratulations to Sarah Cairns who was the winner of the St Vincent de Paul Jedward Poster Competition. Sarah received four tickets for Jedward's recent concert in the Ice Dome and got to meet the famous duo.
We had 2 winners in the Louth County Council Recycled Christmas Decoration Competition. Well done to Nicole Duffy who made a beautiful Christmas wreath and to Sarah Cairns who made a very eye catching snowman. Well done also to Clodagh Roe who made the final judging in this competition.
Nicole also took first prize in the chapter section of the Credit Union poster competition. Nicole beat off stiff opposition from 29 credit unions all over Louth, Monaghan and Cavan.
Well done to Lara Luchessi and Chloe Moran who were winners in the Louth County Council Road Safety Art Competition. The girls received a goody bag full of treats for themselves and their lucky families.
SPORT : Mrs Sloane's 6th class recently participated in a tag rugby blitz in JJB. Although not among the prizewinners they played very well and enjoyed the event.
PENETENTIAL SERVICES : Fr Jim conducted penitential services for the pupils in 3rd - 6th classes during the week.
HOLY FAMILY CAROL SERVICE
Ms Kirk's 4th class represented our school at the Holy Family Carol Service on Sunday evening, performing 2 beautiful carols "Night of Silence" and "Away in a Manger". Well done Ms Kirk, boys and girls, you did our school proud.
BOOK FAIR : Our recent book fair was a great success. Thank you to the Parents & Friends Committee who organised the event for us and to all the parents for their great support. Our school will receive over €3,000 worth of books in the New Year based on the income generated at the fair.
Happy Christmas and every blessing for 2012.
